Vitamin B12 Hydroxocobalamin 5mg 2ml [2.5mg/1ml] Single Use Ampoules

Vitamin B12 is a water soluble vitamin and probably the most well known member of the B Complex group. B12 plays an essential role in red blood cell formation helping to prevent a type of anaemia, cell metabolism, nerve function and the production of DNA - the building blocks for all your body's cells.

There are four types of B12 or cobalamin:

1. Cyanocobalamin- this is a synthetic type of B12 so the body has to convert it to methylcobalamin then to adenosylcobalamin in order to be able to absorb it. There is a small amount of the cyanide molecule (hence the name) in this version. There is some research to suggest it can cause issues in people who have kidney problems. It is cheaper than other B12 versions, so is often used in supplements and fortified foods.
2. Methylcobalamin- this is a naturally occuring c-enzyme form of B12 and is found in natural food sources.
3. Adenosylcobalamin- this is very similar to methylcobalamin and is also a naturally occurring co-enzyme which works synergistically with methylcobalamin.
4. Hydroxocobalamin- this is the most highly bio-available form of B12 and is usually the first choice type of B12 to treat people who have diagnosed B12 deficiencies and/or disorders. It also stays in the body longer than the other forms, so does not need to be taken as often and doesn't have the peaks and dips of other forms.

How much B12 is safe?

No Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) has been established for B12 due to its low level of toxicity. UL refers to the maximum daily dose of a vitamin unlikely to cause adverse side effects in the general population.

Each 2ml ampoule contains :

5mg of B12 Hydroxocobalamin at a concentration of 2.5mg/1ml

Sodium acetate hydrate, sodium Chloride, water for injection, acetic anhydride
